Keeping Moisture for Fallout Shelter Storage Room

Fallout shelter storage room serves multiple purposes. From storage cellars in the basement and from the root to the storm cellars for protection during bad weather. Because these shelters sit below ground level, they often have a problem with moisture filtration. This moisture may appear in the form of condensation on the walls or real water standing in the shelter. Prevent moisture problems using a multi-step approach during construction.

Dig a trench one foot wide and one foot deep around the perimeter of the underground shelter. Pour a 6-inch layer of gravel into the trench. Use the spade to spread it evenly. Place two clay drainage pipes on top of the gravel on each side of the house. One end of each tube must open on the surface of the earth. The other end of the pipe should slope slightly downward, extending at least 15 feet away from the apartment and empty underground. Place additional soil inside the trench to create the slope as needed. When the pipes are installed, they will cover with earth. Do not cover the main drain hole with the floor. Place a grid over the tops of these holes to prevent debris from entering the pipes.

Paint any visible part of the exterior wall of the house with waterproof paint. Waterproofing paint is oversubscribed in paint stores and most home improvement stores. Let the paint to dry for an hour. Apply a second layer. Apply two coats of waterproofing paint on the interior walls, roof, and floor of the shelter.
